The number of city buses with electric drive is increasing rapidly. According to surveys by Chatrou CME Solutions, the number of newly registered electric buses in Western European countries including Poland tripled from 548 in 2018 to 1687 in 2019, making electric buses 11.7 percent of a total of 14,392 newly registered city buses. In 2019 VDL Bus & Coach recorded the highest number of new registrations. 386 newly registered electric buses represent a market share of 22.9 % in this segment. BYD (236; 14.0 %) and Solaris (145; 8.6 %) follow in second and third place, followed by Volvo (135; 8.0 %) and Irizar (127; 7.5 %). Mercedes-Benz is almost on a par with Irizar, with 126 newly registered electric buses in sixth place.
