ZF will start series production of its CeTrax electric central drive for city buses in the third quarter of 2020. In addition to its AxTrax AVE portal axle, this is the second electric drive model that the manufacturer offers in series production. The ZF CeTrax will be manufactured in Friedrichshafen.

ZF has designed CeTrax for use in buses and presented it for the first time in 2017. The design of the drive follows a flexible “plug-and-drive” principle so that CeTrax can also be installed in vehicles with a conventional driveline layout. This enables both installation in new vehicles and use as a retrofit on existing platforms. CeTrax is suitable for operation with batteries, catenary, supercaps or even in a fuel cell configuration.

The Polish bus manufacturer Solaris will install CeTrax in its new Urbino 15 LE electric model.
